ok, so, you wanna know what happened in Iowa?? We drove to ... hmm, I can't remember the name of the town, in Iowa...three fires lake or something, to meet Erin, Megan (and her family), and my dad for some camping. It was hot and sticky, but nothing we Kansans aren't used to putting up with. I think this trip started with drinking...jack and coke with Erin, Megan joined in later. We decided to go swimming that night cuz we were all hot and so went to the beach, and Erin shared her tanning oil, and we made the lake look like an oil spill, and slipped and slid across the floaties, and slipped and nearly dropped now oily babies. M had her first experience of peeing in the lake "its ok to pee in a lake. everybody does..." so says Megan's family, which M responds dubiously "Are you suure??" Took her a long time to decide we weren't kidding. Every other animal pees in the lake, why shouldn't we?
Some more drinking. And some delicious slow cooked pulled pork sandwiches courtesy of Jason and his family (16 hours cooking, was it?). MMM MMM yuMMy!
And at this point (being a month or so later) I can't remember the order of events. Gilli had some birthday presents, and Megan made some delicious chocolate zucchini cake (right?) it was also yummy. And bubble courtesy of my dad - which the kids loved....kids being all of us...ok mostly me. And then at night my dad whipped out an awesome laser pen which is used for pointing at stars (which is not what we used it for) and provided us with some psychadalic (sp?) entertainment. J made delicious Chicken Delight in his dutch oven, after quite a bit of debating as to how he was supposed to cook it, he continued to do it his way, and the outcome was wonderful, with a very happy bunch of campers. MMMM< now I want some. Ummm, what else, smores, but not as many as I usually eat, on account of the Jack I think, and other amazing food. WE loved it. It was fun to spend that much time with our family, without worrying about what else needed to be done, or when or why or anything. Just camping and enjoying ourselves.
I have one more story for you, but it will wait for next time. It involves Megan, Jason, a tent, and a dog. and laughing.
