back to school

We had a great trip up to Idaho for a family reunion (J's side of the family) after a short camping trip with some of my family in Iowa (not family from Iowa, just where we met up). We've been pretty busy and summer has disappeared. It didn't help that I had summer classes, and only 3 weeks off. We got to do some rough scouting in Colorado, to see where we might likely live when we finally move. Quite a few good stories, but I split them up.

When we were in Colorado Springs we decided to go to Seven Falls - where they told us the Mountain elevator is broken, so they will take $1 off our admissions. We agreed, not minding 185 steps....wait, what did J just agree to? So we went to climb said stairs, which were small, and steep and seemed to go on forever; about half way up - the first set of stairs - M gets tired of climbing (we saw this coming, and I didn't blame her, I was tired too!) so I take E from J and J picks up M (he's stronger after all). We push ourselves the last 40 steps or so and my legs and lungs were threatening to quit. We took a break before tackling the next set...I would like to point out we did more than 185 steps, cuz we chose the longer route. This time we both carried a kid all the way up but took our time because there was a lady behind us who said thanks for setting a pace she could do without looking bad :) . That's right. These stairs are so narrow 2 people have a hard time passing - which is more a problem when the other people are coming down as well. So we make it to the top just in time for another break! And then we went for a small hike, maybe 1 mile or 2, which both my babies loved. It was a wonderful hike and J and I could not get enough of it - it has been such a long time since we had anything worth hiking, and breathing that fresh mountain air - and I barely sweat, which is a feat for me, considering in Kansas I step outside sit down and I soak my clothes in sweat. Anyway, then we had to go back down the steps, which I thought would be easy, but my legs still protested, and got wobbly (not a safe time to be wobbly), and when we got to the bottom and sat, my legs were shaking horribly.

But we had a great time. And my legs are just fine now. Pics of our trip are to come!

Stranger Danger

Ok. So, we've talked to M about strangers a bit, telling her to be safe and what not. A couple of times she brings it up when we say no she can't do something and she says "because there are stangers?" or some such. We haven't talked about it recently, but apparently the message stuck: We were at Wal-Mart, had just finised checking out and J went to use the restroom and M wanted to get a drink from the water fountain -I was still a few steps behind, so M said "Mom will you come a little bit closer?" and I said yes, and she continued "because you wouldn't want a stranger to grab me." I smiled and said "No I wouldn't like that." And she said "You would say 'oh no! someone has taken my child!" At which point I couldn't help but laugh and tell her how much I loved her.

End of the week

This week has been lots of fun. J's mom, step-dad, sister and nephew all came to stay with us for the week. We've had a lot of fun visiting, playing games, and swimming. I'm so glad they came to visit us, aaallll the way from Idaho! We're lucky they had the time and all came! They are leaving in the morning because his step-dad has to work sunday afternoon! Crazy wonderful people. On another note, tomorrow J and I will have been married 3 years. I can hardly believe it's been three years....absolutely wonderful. I have never made a better decision in my life!

bribe

We had a fun weekend - we went to the zoo which was having family fun day, and then we went to the dog show (both of which were free). Then on Sunday we went to Greg & Robin's to see their new puppies, and they are stinkin' cute! And Greg BBQ'ed for us - yummy! At one point, while we were hanging out at their house, Robin sat down on the couch and asked M if she was gonna come sit by her, and M said: "I will sit by you if you get me a drink of water." (as she was climbing up on the couch next to her). And this would be the first time I have heard her use a bribe (and certainly not the last) - I told her maybe she should ask instead and she got embarassed.
