So, we went to my cousin's daughter's (Charlotte) 3rd birthday party on sunday at Pump it up - a place with inflatables you can play on, slide down, and in general go crazy. It was fun for everybody and then J decided he and I should race eachother through the obstacle course. Well, I was well on my way to beating him through it when I got over the FIRST hump...at which point I sprained (or strained, I'm not sure) my ankle. It hurt like hell right away and then the pain kinda went away and I felt like I was being a baby. But then, later that night, despite the icepack and elevated foot, it hurt even worse. I could hardly walk on it. In the middle of the night I had to go to the bathroom and I had to crawl - it was that bad (and embarrassing, I'm not sure why I'm telling you except to explain HOW bad it hurt). The next day I couldn't walk on it, and THANK GOD Justi lives with me and was willing to help me out. She took care of M, E and me all day. She's already a mother, now all she needs is kids ;) . She is the BEST! I was glad class was canceled Monday due to snow, cause there was no way I was walking to class. Today it is better, unless I step on uneven ground (which is hard not to do in snow) which twists my ankle and hurts. But I can walk and my ankle is only a little swollen. And that is that.

I know we are in for some surprises and troubles, but we are doing our best to head them off and avoid other peoples mistakes. (J is still trying to convince me that we need to start pigs this year. I keep reminding him that is one of the PRIMARY mistakes other homesteaders have made: being too eager and getting in too deep, too fast). So, we start our garden and chickens this year - keeping our fingers crossed that we aren't putting them in poor locations. The chickens are the first thing branching out into our additional 2 acres. The coop and kennel are going at the outside, back corner of our fenced in yard. Our coop is valiantly being made from old cabinets we picked up at the local Habitat for Humanity, Re-Store. We intend to paint, add roof, prop up on legs, and insert s...
