Clearance Puppy

This has been a really crazy weekend. Thursday J got a call from a breeder he had been speaking to 3 or 4 months ago. We were going to go look at a puppy of his (with no real intention of buying) back then, but when we called the breeder said he just sold the last female 2 hours previously. Then on thursday he called to tell J that a buyer backed out last minute and J has first chance at getting her, so Friday we went to see her. She was discounted for us (and b/c she is older now, I think) and much more affordable - and so we brought her home, and her name is Sugar. Sug (shoog) for short. She is very sweet and calm, and listens really well. She is a yellow lab, and for all of you who have read the book or watched the movie - yes, we bought the "clearance puppy"! And actually we stopped at Blockbuster to return some movies and a big Marley & Me poster was in the window and M said :"Is that a picture of Sugar?" - I hope not!

Saturday was the last 50 cent cleanup day at the Dump and so J and I made a run for it there - bringing our busted futon, busted lawn mower, busted everything else, and don't forget all the rotten food from our deep freeze (that's another story, and yes, it is my fault.). We also went and picked up my Grandpa S's old couch, and stopped at the pet store - all while rain was threatening to let loose. Have no fear - we made it home in time.
Saturday was also cousin Jessica's 26th birthday! Woo Hoo! And so after showering we went to a place called Margarita's. It was a pretty nice place and offered a band, and dinner (which was really good.) Jess likes to dance (I do NOT!) but with enough liquor I am somewhat persuadable. And so we managed! Wierdly enough, most of the crowd were people in there late 30's - 40's +. But they still knew how to have fun. It was a blast. (that night at home was miserable, but it was worth it.)

Today (Sunday) turned into a very stormy night. oh, wait- Sat. was a stormy night and we left my scaredy cat dog in the bathroom b/c sugar had the kennel - and sure enough (I warned J) she scratched up the wall by the door - but she also tore through the drywall, so now we have a huge hole in our wall!
anyway - sunday is stormy and the Tornado sirens went off so we trucked it up to Don and Nancy's - I got totally soaked! Dripping. no joke. We waited out that chunk and went home - which was proceeded by more storming, and I am about to head back out into it to go home. I had to come back up to turn in my homework online. Now I am done. ahh.

Pics will hopefully be up tomorrow.

Chicken Adventure Begins

Our first step towards the 'homestead' lifestyle: CHICKENS.  J and I have been researching, reading books & articles, and saving a TON of info to our Pinterest board.  I know we are in for some surprises and troubles, but we are doing our best to head them off and avoid other peoples mistakes. (J is still trying to convince me that we need to start pigs this year.  I keep reminding him that is one of the PRIMARY mistakes other homesteaders have made: being too eager and getting in too deep, too fast). So, we start our garden and chickens this year - keeping our fingers crossed that we aren't putting them in poor locations.  The chickens are the first thing branching out into our additional 2 acres.  The coop and kennel are going at the outside, back corner of our fenced in yard.  Our coop is valiantly being made from old cabinets we picked up at the local Habitat for Humanity, Re-Store.  We intend to paint, add roof, prop up on legs, and insert s...

Caught Bare Bottomed.

Yesterday I went to retrieve my kids from playing in the backyard with the neighbors....When I round the corner I behold my 5 year old daughter with her shorts baring her bottom to the 6 year old neighbor boy. Me:  M!  E!  It is time to go home. now! M:  E did it too! (while sheepishly pulling her shorts back up and E snaps his head around to look at me with big eyes and "O" mouth) WHY?
