halloween was lots of fun. we went to the Family Fall Festival at Aunt N's. M had lots of fun being dressed up...as a witch! She was adorable, and I appologize, but I have no pics. I completely forgot to bring my camera. Hopefully I can steal some from Aunt N. M had a skirt with fiber optics on it that lit up different colors, and she wore glow sticks as well. She had a cute witch hat, orange tights with bats, and a black shirt that says "my magic power is being cute." She even won the costume contest and got delicious Choxie chocolates as a prize. The chocolates were really cool actually because they were little cups of chocolate, made out of chocolate, with different flavors of soft chocolate in the middle...like caramel, pistachio, milk choco...etc. CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE!! We are really enjoying them. there is only one left actually.
Oh, and I finally got everything finalized on the Buick my mom sold me, so now it is officially mine, tags and title! woo hoo! and insurance. it feels good to have it all done and be able to drive it, and return Grams and Gramps truck that we've been borrowing...soon...J has to clean it first. All in all it was a good weekend.

Chicken Adventure Begins

Our first step towards the 'homestead' lifestyle: CHICKENS.  J and I have been researching, reading books & articles, and saving a TON of info to our Pinterest board.  I know we are in for some surprises and troubles, but we are doing our best to head them off and avoid other peoples mistakes. (J is still trying to convince me that we need to start pigs this year.  I keep reminding him that is one of the PRIMARY mistakes other homesteaders have made: being too eager and getting in too deep, too fast). So, we start our garden and chickens this year - keeping our fingers crossed that we aren't putting them in poor locations.  The chickens are the first thing branching out into our additional 2 acres.  The coop and kennel are going at the outside, back corner of our fenced in yard.  Our coop is valiantly being made from old cabinets we picked up at the local Habitat for Humanity, Re-Store.  We intend to paint, add roof, prop up on legs, and insert s...

Caught Bare Bottomed.

Yesterday I went to retrieve my kids from playing in the backyard with the neighbors....When I round the corner I behold my 5 year old daughter with her shorts baring her bottom to the 6 year old neighbor boy. Me:  M!  E!  It is time to go home. now! M:  E did it too! (while sheepishly pulling her shorts back up and E snaps his head around to look at me with big eyes and "O" mouth) WHY?

Clearance Puppy

This has been a really crazy weekend. Thursday J got a call from a breeder he had been speaking to 3 or 4 months ago. We were going to go look at a puppy of his (with no real intention of buying) back then, but when we called the breeder said he just sold the last female 2 hours previously. Then on thursday he called to tell J that a buyer backed out last minute and J has first chance at getting her, so Friday we went to see her. She was discounted for us (and b/c she is older now, I think) and much more affordable - and so we brought her home, and her name is Sugar. Sug (shoog) for short. She is very sweet and calm, and listens really well. She is a yellow lab, and for all of you who have read the book or watched the movie - yes, we bought the "clearance puppy"! And actually we stopped at Blockbuster to return some movies and a big Marley & Me poster was in the window and M said :"Is that a picture of Sugar?" - I hope not! Saturday was the last 50 cen...
