So, I've got my dentist appointment at the GraceMed clinic in Wichita...but it's not until Nov. 16...not only is it forever away, but it's right before Thanksgiving! That is my favorite eating holiday!!! But, on the up side, getting them removed at the clinic will only cost me $60 a tooth...that's four teeth, bleh! Saving me tons of money!! that's good...Today I am trying to clean up my computer some, which I can't really do, cuz I don't know what's okay to get rid of. I tried some of the free programs onling, but each of them tell me I have thousands of errors, but in order for them to actually fix it, I have to give them money! I don't have money. So, I've given up on that, and now I'm going to be good and finish my homework for tomorrow. It's really hard to do it because I would oh so much rather be playing around with my new program, Photoshop Elements!! woo hoo....but, I will do that when I'm done with my homework......My homework is going to be poorly done, but it will be done. I got an A on my first math test...so far so good...everyone else pretty much got 70% or less. Our teacher was not impressed. And all day I can only think of how I should be packing, how much packing is to be done, and how little time I have to do it because I procrastinate all the time. Like right now. Packing should be a free service provided by anyone but me. PLEASE. SOMEONE COME CLEAN AND PACK MY HOUSE, AND THEN CLEAN IT AGAIN. Now, I'm off to my books!

Stranger Danger

Ok. So, we've talked to M about strangers a bit, telling her to be safe and what not. A couple of times she brings it up when we say no she can't do something and she says "because there are stangers?" or some such. We haven't talked about it recently, but apparently the message stuck: We were at Wal-Mart, had just finised checking out and J went to use the restroom and M wanted to get a drink from the water fountain -I was still a few steps behind, so M said "Mom will you come a little bit closer?" and I said yes, and she continued "because you wouldn't want a stranger to grab me." I smiled and said "No I wouldn't like that." And she said "You would say 'oh no! someone has taken my child!" At which point I couldn't help but laugh and tell her how much I loved her.

Clearance Puppy

This has been a really crazy weekend. Thursday J got a call from a breeder he had been speaking to 3 or 4 months ago. We were going to go look at a puppy of his (with no real intention of buying) back then, but when we called the breeder said he just sold the last female 2 hours previously. Then on thursday he called to tell J that a buyer backed out last minute and J has first chance at getting her, so Friday we went to see her. She was discounted for us (and b/c she is older now, I think) and much more affordable - and so we brought her home, and her name is Sugar. Sug (shoog) for short. She is very sweet and calm, and listens really well. She is a yellow lab, and for all of you who have read the book or watched the movie - yes, we bought the "clearance puppy"! And actually we stopped at Blockbuster to return some movies and a big Marley & Me poster was in the window and M said :"Is that a picture of Sugar?" - I hope not! Saturday was the last 50 cen...

Chicken Adventure Begins

Our first step towards the 'homestead' lifestyle: CHICKENS.  J and I have been researching, reading books & articles, and saving a TON of info to our Pinterest board.  I know we are in for some surprises and troubles, but we are doing our best to head them off and avoid other peoples mistakes. (J is still trying to convince me that we need to start pigs this year.  I keep reminding him that is one of the PRIMARY mistakes other homesteaders have made: being too eager and getting in too deep, too fast). So, we start our garden and chickens this year - keeping our fingers crossed that we aren't putting them in poor locations.  The chickens are the first thing branching out into our additional 2 acres.  The coop and kennel are going at the outside, back corner of our fenced in yard.  Our coop is valiantly being made from old cabinets we picked up at the local Habitat for Humanity, Re-Store.  We intend to paint, add roof, prop up on legs, and insert s...
