hello

so, I know I haven't blogged in a little while. I've been busy! (I know it doesn't happen very often.) J's surgery went mostly well -- by now most of you have called and know that, thank you for your calls! I was waiting in the waiting room for about 1 1/2 hours when the nurse called and said that everything was going well but that it was taking longer than usual. I waited more and later the surgeon came and told me he was finished and that everything was okay, and gave me some care instructions. Awhile later a nurse came and told me that J was in a lot of pain and had him in recovery for an hour but that he was still in a lot of pain. She said they had given him 2 doses of morphine, 2 doses of something stronger, and a dose of valium to relax his muscles. He was asking for me and so she brought me back. J was in pain for a long time and they gave him percacet (sp?), we were in the recovery room for another hour and a half before they sent us to the other out patient room, where slowly but surely J's meds started to kick in. We had to stay until J's pain was managable, and until after he peed (at which time all his nurses clapped for him and told him "good job". which I thought was hilarious) So we went home and now he is doing quite a bit better, except in the morning he is in a lot of pain and walks like an old man, and when he laughs it hurts. J's mom is visiting us until tuesday, when she has to go back to Idaho. It has been a lot of fun having her here, and M is having a lot of fun with her as well. Today we are at grandma gauthiers for dinner, which gave me an opportunity to blog. That about brings us up to date. OH, and M is doing well at potty training!! (knock on wood) She goes a lot, but pretty much throughout the day she does not have a dirty diaper, only during nap time and bed time she wears a diaper. I was SUPER excited when she actually pooped in the potty chair. She saw it and said "yucky poop" but I couldn't stop telling her how good she did! There have been two accidents with poop not in the potty chair, but still....it's a work in progress.
I will try to do pictures next time.

Stranger Danger

Ok. So, we've talked to M about strangers a bit, telling her to be safe and what not. A couple of times she brings it up when we say no she can't do something and she says "because there are stangers?" or some such. We haven't talked about it recently, but apparently the message stuck: We were at Wal-Mart, had just finised checking out and J went to use the restroom and M wanted to get a drink from the water fountain -I was still a few steps behind, so M said "Mom will you come a little bit closer?" and I said yes, and she continued "because you wouldn't want a stranger to grab me." I smiled and said "No I wouldn't like that." And she said "You would say 'oh no! someone has taken my child!" At which point I couldn't help but laugh and tell her how much I loved her.

Clearance Puppy

This has been a really crazy weekend. Thursday J got a call from a breeder he had been speaking to 3 or 4 months ago. We were going to go look at a puppy of his (with no real intention of buying) back then, but when we called the breeder said he just sold the last female 2 hours previously. Then on thursday he called to tell J that a buyer backed out last minute and J has first chance at getting her, so Friday we went to see her. She was discounted for us (and b/c she is older now, I think) and much more affordable - and so we brought her home, and her name is Sugar. Sug (shoog) for short. She is very sweet and calm, and listens really well. She is a yellow lab, and for all of you who have read the book or watched the movie - yes, we bought the "clearance puppy"! And actually we stopped at Blockbuster to return some movies and a big Marley & Me poster was in the window and M said :"Is that a picture of Sugar?" - I hope not! Saturday was the last 50 cen...

End of the week

This week has been lots of fun. J's mom, step-dad, sister and nephew all came to stay with us for the week. We've had a lot of fun visiting, playing games, and swimming. I'm so glad they came to visit us, aaallll the way from Idaho! We're lucky they had the time and all came! They are leaving in the morning because his step-dad has to work sunday afternoon! Crazy wonderful people. On another note, tomorrow J and I will have been married 3 years. I can hardly believe it's been three years....absolutely wonderful. I have never made a better decision in my life!
