Ballpit play area warnings...

This is a forwarded e-mail I recieved, if you're interested:

Body: McDonalds, Chuck E Cheese, Discovery Zone... All places with ballpits in the children's play area. One of my sons lost his watch, andwas very upset. We dug and dug in those balls, trying to find hisWatch. Instead, we found vomit, food, feces, and other stuff I do not wantto discuss.I went to the manager and raised hell. Come to find out, the ball pitis only cleaned out once a month. I have doubts that it is even donethat often. My kids will never play in another ball pit. Some of you might not be parents, but you may have nieces, nephews, grandchildren, or friends with children. This will pertain to you too.

As I read the following, my heart sank.I urge each and every one of you to pass this on to as many people asyou can. I cannot stress how important this is!

Hi. My name is Lauren Archer, my son Kevin and I lived in Midland , TN.On October 2nd, 1999 I took my only son to McDonald's for his 3rdbirthday. After he finished lunch, I allowed him to play in the ball pit.Whenhe started whining later on, I asked him what was wrong, he pointedto the back of his pull-up and simply said "Mommy, it hurts." Icouldn't find anything wrong with him at that time. I bathed him whenwe got home, and it was at that point when I found a welt on his leftbuttock.Upon investigating, it seemed as if there was something like asplinter under the welt. I made an appointment to see the doctor thenext day, but soon he started vomiting and shaking, then his eyesrolled back into his head. From there, we went to the emergency room.He died later that night. It turned out that the welt on his buttockwas the tip of a hypodermic needle that had broken off inside. The autopsy revealed that Kevin had died from a heroine overdose. Thenext week, the police removed the balls from the ball pit. There wasrotten food, several hypodermic needles: some full, some used;knives, half-eaten candy, diapers, feces, and the stench of urine.(You can find the article on Kevin Archer in the October 10,1999issue of the Midland Chronicle.)
Don't think it's just McDonald's either. A little boy had beenplaying in a ball pit @ a Burger King & started complaining of hislegs hurting. He later died too. He was found to have snake bitesall over his legs & buttocks. When they cleaned the ball pit theyfound that there was a copperhead's nest in the ball pit. He hadsuffered numerous bites fromt; a very poisonous snake.Repost this if it scares the crap out of you!! Repost this if youcare about kids!! Please forward this to all loving mothers, fathersand anyone who loves and cares for children!! What has this worldcome to??If a child is not safe in a child's play area then where??

AND FYI:In Florida and other places on the East Coast a group of people areputting HIV/AIDS infected and filled needles underneath gas pumphandles, so when someone reaches to pick it up and put gas in theircar, they get stabbed with it. 16 people have been a victim of thiscrime so far and 10 tested HIV positive. Instead of posting thatstupid crap about how your love life will suck for years to come ifyou don't re-post, post this. It's important to inform people, even if you don't drive, a familymember might, and what if they were next?

Stranger Danger

Ok. So, we've talked to M about strangers a bit, telling her to be safe and what not. A couple of times she brings it up when we say no she can't do something and she says "because there are stangers?" or some such. We haven't talked about it recently, but apparently the message stuck: We were at Wal-Mart, had just finised checking out and J went to use the restroom and M wanted to get a drink from the water fountain -I was still a few steps behind, so M said "Mom will you come a little bit closer?" and I said yes, and she continued "because you wouldn't want a stranger to grab me." I smiled and said "No I wouldn't like that." And she said "You would say 'oh no! someone has taken my child!" At which point I couldn't help but laugh and tell her how much I loved her.

Clearance Puppy

This has been a really crazy weekend. Thursday J got a call from a breeder he had been speaking to 3 or 4 months ago. We were going to go look at a puppy of his (with no real intention of buying) back then, but when we called the breeder said he just sold the last female 2 hours previously. Then on thursday he called to tell J that a buyer backed out last minute and J has first chance at getting her, so Friday we went to see her. She was discounted for us (and b/c she is older now, I think) and much more affordable - and so we brought her home, and her name is Sugar. Sug (shoog) for short. She is very sweet and calm, and listens really well. She is a yellow lab, and for all of you who have read the book or watched the movie - yes, we bought the "clearance puppy"! And actually we stopped at Blockbuster to return some movies and a big Marley & Me poster was in the window and M said :"Is that a picture of Sugar?" - I hope not! Saturday was the last 50 cen...

End of the week

This week has been lots of fun. J's mom, step-dad, sister and nephew all came to stay with us for the week. We've had a lot of fun visiting, playing games, and swimming. I'm so glad they came to visit us, aaallll the way from Idaho! We're lucky they had the time and all came! They are leaving in the morning because his step-dad has to work sunday afternoon! Crazy wonderful people. On another note, tomorrow J and I will have been married 3 years. I can hardly believe it's been three years....absolutely wonderful. I have never made a better decision in my life!
